Milford House - A house at risk
Milford House purchased by Armagh City and District Council. Has been on BHARNI register since 1999 as listed building as serious risk. 90% of original glass panes intact at time of sale. Milford House Fountain stolen in 1996 will always be on BHARNI Register until it is recovered.
Since being purchased by current owner Milford House has deteriorated to crisis point. Milford House designated part of 'Dirty Dozen by Ulster Architectural Heritage Society in November 2011. It is now officially one of the top twelve listed buildings at most serious risk in Northern Ireland!
The house retains all original radiators from its nineteenth century in place.
After being sold to current owner radiators are stolen in c.2003. Police catch thieves in act and sniffer dogs trace thieves to their house. Owner of Milford House does not prosecute. Radiators are never recovered.
Milford House has a number of magnificent cast iron radiator covers (some with marble tops) all intact at time of sale by Armagh Council to current owner in 2002.
Radiator covers lying in pieces throughout house.
Beautiful cast iron banisters fully in tact line balustrade of staircase to cellars.
After sale of Milford House to current owner in 2002 these cast iron banisters are vandalised and stolen.
One of most important features of Milford House is the dome. Vandals had lit fire in bedroom below dome but only succeeded in burning hole in ceiling. Dome fully intact at time of sale by Armagh Council.
Copper from dome stolen in Autumn of 2011. Police catch thieves in act. Owner refuses to prosecute but says it will deter thieves from doing it again. Thieves come back following week and steal even more copper from dome. Milford Buildings Preservation Trust writes to owner asking with them to please make roof watertight by repairing dome or at leave covering it. Owner does nothing and Milford House is open to elements ever since.
In 2009/2010 Thieves strip Milford House of its copper wiring and piping. Floors lifted up and plaster ripped of walls to get wires and piping. Milford House is being destroyed.
If action isnt taken now Milford House will be lost forever. Help Milford Buildings Preservation Trust save Milford House !!!!!!
